The project
A fourteen storey corner building at the Shmaryahu Levin light rail station in Kiryat HaYovel
Hantke 28 replaces the buildings that stood on the corner of Hantke Street and Shmaryahu Levin Street in Kiryat HaYovel, Jerusalem. The permit, approved on 20 April 2026 under file 101-1133925, covers the demolition of the existing structures and the construction of one residential and commercial building of 40 homes on the plot, against the two the cleared structures held. Lev Architecture designed it as a fourteen storey block on a small lot, with underground parking and with the commercial, office and residential floors working as separate addresses inside a single envelope.
The Red Line of the Jerusalem light rail runs along Hantke Street, and its Shmaryahu Levin station stands at the corner of the plot. Track laying on Hantke Street began in November 2020, and the 1.2 km segment between Har Herzl station and the Tahon junction entered trial running in May 2023, which places Mount Herzl, the city centre and the Hadassah Ein Kerem terminus on one ride from the entrance.
The permit renderings show a facade clad in Jerusalem stone with wood panelled recesses, deep balconies across the residential floors and a pergola shading the top floor terrace. Shopfronts run along the Hantke Street frontage at pavement level, while the residential lobby and the parking ramp are set on the quieter Shmaryahu Levin side, where the ground floor is planted.
Kiryat HaYovel is being rebuilt along this street. The separate Hantke compound plan, number 101-0510610, was approved further north on Hantke Street for four residential towers holding about 480 homes, and its execution contract was signed for works starting in March 2026. Everyday anchors stay close: Rabinovich Park with its Monster sculpture sits a short walk down the street, and Shaare Zedek Medical Center, Mount Herzl and Yad Vashem are all within roughly two kilometres along Herzl Boulevard.
