The project
Petahiyah 19, Jerusalem
Petahiyah 19 adds five homes to an existing residential building in Ma'alot Dafna, in the north of Jerusalem. The works are recorded in the national planning system under permit 101-1199801, which covers the addition of floors to the building and the creation of the new dwelling units inside that extension. The project is at the planning stage and construction has not started.
The address stands 186 metres from the Shimon HaTzadik stop on the Jerusalem Light Rail Red Line, whose southbound run continues through Shivtei Israel, Damascus Gate and Jaffa Center. Haim Bar-Lev Road passes 180 metres to the east and carries traffic to Route 1 and the northern exits of the city. Ammunition Hill, with its 1967 battlefield memorial and museum, is 730 metres away, and the walls of the Old City are about 1.2 kilometres to the south.
Ma'alot Dafna took shape after 1967 on the ground that had held the Green Line, a few hundred metres from the former Mandelbaum crossing. It is now a compact residential quarter of low blocks, wedged between Sanhedria to the west and Sheikh Jarrah to the east, with schools, synagogues and neighbourhood services inside a 400 metre radius of the building. The Tomb of Shimon HaTzadik and the Tombs of the Kings both sit within a ten minute walk.
Five units place this project among the small vertical extensions that supply much of the new housing in built-up northern Jerusalem, where free land has run out and height is added to buildings that already stand. No sales campaign, price list or delivery date has been published for Petahiyah 19, and the public record carries the permit alone.
